Fire Services
Fire protection for the Town of Alberton is provided through an interlocal agreement with the Frenchtown Fire District. For fire emergencies, always call 911.
Burn Permits — Mineral County
If you plan to do any outdoor burning in Mineral County, you are required to have a burn permit. The good news — it’s free and available online 24/7, even on the day you want to burn.
Burn permits aren’t just a formality. When a 911 call comes in reporting smoke, dispatchers can quickly check whether a permit is on file for that location. If you have an active permit, fire engines won’t be dispatched unnecessarily — saving taxpayer resources and keeping our crews available for real emergencies. It’s a simple step that makes a real difference for the whole community.

A few important things to know:
- Only one permit per year is needed, but you must activate it every day you plan to burn — after 6 a.m. on your burning day
- When you log in to activate, the system will confirm whether conditions allow safe burning that day
- Burn permits become available by March 1st each year for burning season
- If you burn without activating your permit, it is considered an illegal burn
